What is the GMI Partnership
What do the letters GMI stand for?
GMI stands for Gay Men's Interactions. This name was chosen because the Partnership is fundamentally focussed on communicating with men who have sex with men on a one-on-one basis to prevent or reduce HIV infection.
What does the GMI Partnership stand for?
The GMI Partnership is committed to engaging men who have sex with men in London in innovative ways to change risk behaviours and reduce HIV infection. All the research shows that men who have sex with men, in certain situations, have a significant risk of becoming infected with HIV. We believe that there needs to be a balance between mass interventions such as leaflets and posters and interpersonal interventions i.e. talking to men about their concerns and support needs. Reducing HIV involves looking at what influences behaviour, what skills might be needed, what knowledge needs building and attitudes examined.
When was the Partnership formed?
18 January 2008.
How does the Partnership work?
We have developed an agreement called a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). This outlines the values, principles and structures of the Partnership. The MoA describes the management and staffing structures which will ensure delivery of outputs and outcomes. Although different agencies have different responsibilities and staff, we will deliver the services to agreed aims and targets.
