How do I become a Volunteer?
- For Health Trainers and Mentors:
Once our Training and Volunteer Coordinator has received your application form, you will be invited to attend an interview with him and the team leader of the workstream you want to volunteer in.
- Counsellors will be invited to attend an interview with a Counselling Team Leader.
If you are accepted as a volunteer you will be asked to submit an application for a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) which will be submitted along with your references.
At the same time you will be invited to attend one of our regular training weekends which all volunteers have to complete. These take place at regular intervals throughout the year and spread over two weekends, allowing you to pick the dates that are suitable for you.
On this course you will learn about the issues that MSM face around choosing the kind of sex to have, more about the community that you are looking to work with and understand the basics of sexual health. The course itself is accredited to the Royal Society of for Public Health and a successful completion of the course, including an assessment, means you will be awarded a Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement certificate.
You will also receive training specific to your role as a Mentor, Health Trainer or Counsellor before starting work with us as well as regular reviews of your training needs along with forums to update you on changes to the sector that we work within to make sure your skills are developed and nurtured.
